Abbie and Piers’ Engagement

Photographing a couple’s wedding can sometimes be a little daunting. And not just for the photographer.

Having someone you’ve never met turn up at your wedding and spend the day pointing their camera at you when all you want is to be at your most natural, can understandably put some people ill at ease. There are some who aren’t used to posing for photos and some who aren’t comfortable being photographed at all.

To alleviate some of these concerns, I always meet a couple in advance. This gives me a chance to understand their vision and chat about the arrangements, timings and the venue but also gives them a chance to get to know me. However, meeting me doesn’t necessarily put them at ease in front of the lens.

Enter The Engagement Shoot. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I am now providing couples with the option of an Engagement Shoot. Not only do a couple receive a lovely set of images to flick through in a photobook or frame on their wall, but they get to experience posing for photographs, which helps them relax and in turn provides even nicer, informal shots. And they get to feel comfortable being photographed by me.

Abbie and Piers decided to have their Engagement Shoot amongst the old fishing boats of Rock-A-Nore in Hastings Old Town which was a peach of a location. Lobster pots and battered hulls mingle with the working fishing boats and rusty tractors which pull them, to provide a rich and interesting backdrop for a photoshoot. Abbie and Piers are hoping to get married at a venue which spills onto the beach in nearby Winchelsea, so this was the perfect spot with which to create the image to adorn their wedding invitations.

We had a fun afternoon shooting amongst the boats and we’re all a little more excited about the wedding now too…
