A wedding is a day of commitment. Two people standing in front of their loved ones, promising to love, cherish…well, you know the drill. Jennifer & Jim had chosen 6th April to make this commitment to each other and I had made a commitment to them to be their wedding photographer.
The following day however, the 7th April, was the due date of my second baby. The ultimate commitment. And although unlikely, there was a chance that my wife could go into labour during “I do”. So, what now?
I explained the situation to Jennifer & Jim and being lovely souls, their immediate reaction was full of congratulations. They were happy for me to bring another established wedding photographer, Alan Barnes to second shoot for me or until I received a call from the hospital, at which point, he would take over as principal.
The hospital call never came, and on a beautiful spring day, amongst a selection of their favourite humans and with a sprinkling of magic at the Woodlands Park Hotel in Surrey, Jennifer & Jim made their commitment to each other.
I could keep my commitment to them with the trusty help of Alan and sixteen days later, I was able to keep my commitment to my wife and our new baby, Sam.
