London Wedding Photography at The Ivy – Charlotte & David

Being a wedding photographer in London is always a pleasure for me, it being the place I grew up. But when it’s set in a prestigious venue such as The Ivy with all its art-filled elegance, sophisticated decor and history of fascinating clientele, I’m chomping at the bit.

David is an old friend of my wife Stacey and, having also been a wedding photographer himself, has helped me out as a second shooter at a wedding shortly after I had torn my calf muscle. Charlotte is an old friend of another of my wife’s friends and she met David at our leaving party when we moved to Brighton. It was obviously meant to be.

David now works for a bank and, with their two little girls, they are all about to embark on a new adventure overseas. It seemed the perfect opportunity to gather those closest to them for their intimate wedding before they were to leave.

And a lovely, intimate day it was as well. There were about 30 guests and it made it all the more special. Charlotte wanted just a few photos at the house beforehand and then we made our way to their ceremony, which was held at York House Register Office in Twickenham.

Being a 4pm November wedding and a little tight for time, we weren’t able to feature York House‘s beautiful Japanese gardens in their couple shoot. I was however able to arrange a viewing appointment at The Ivy prior to the day to prepare some ideas for a few nice images there, trying to feature the iconic stained-glass windows of its restaurant as well as find some other unusual viewpoints.

Incredible culinary delights from The Ivy‘s famous kitchen were interspersed with some fabulous speeches from Charlotte’s Dad, David and his Best Man. There was laughter, tears and well-timed interruptions emanating from their baby’s pram. Having a toddler and a 4 month old meant scheduling in time for feeds and some rocking to sleep but that was all part and parcel of Charlotte & David’s day. It was a day about family and close friends. To share their special day together before they set off on their new chapter overseas. The perfect family gathering.
